Escondido, CA — Monday, July 31, 2017 Enjoy live music under the stars every Friday night from 7pm -10pm in August at the California Center for the Arts, Escondido’s 7th Annual Jazz Jam Sessions music series with the Charlie Arbelaez Quartet, Darryl Williams, Quinteto Caballero, and the Lorraine Castellanos Quintet! Audience members also have the opportunity to show their talent! They can jam with the band on their instrument of choice or even sing a jazz favorite during that night’s event. Whether you choose to join in or just watch, come kick back in our beautiful Lyric Court with gourmet wine, appetizers, and Jazz!

Friday, August 4, 2017: Charlie Arbelaez Quartet – Come join the Charlie Arbelaez Quartet for a night of explosive bebop! Charlie’s performance exudes a high level of dedication to his art as well as an incredible amount of infectious energy! Charlie has extensively toured throughout the nation performing with many world class musicians. He moved to New York City in August 2016 from San Diego after honorably serving his country in the United States Marine Corps and First Marine Division Band, and is making a splash in the New York jazz scene. He will be back in San Diego for this one-time engagement to share his music at the Center.

Friday, August 11, 2017: Darryl Williams – Come join us for a night of brilliant smooth jazz with Darryl Williams! Darryl Williams, currently a resident of Temecula, California, is a multi-talented bassist/composer who has toured and performed with many of the top Smooth Jazz and RnB artist of today, including Gerald Albright, Ronnie Foster, Everette Harp, Clint Holmes, and Marcus Johnson. In 2008, Williams released a solo album entitled “That Was Then” which received high praises from several top smooth jazz writers and DJ’s.

Friday, August 18, 2017: Quinteto Caballero – Quinteto Caballero is a superb, exhilarating Latin jazz quintet led by Bill Caballero. Using his trumpet and flugelhorn, Bill voices Latin jazz interpretations of standards and ballads, as well as original tunes and covers of traditional, Salsa, and Brazilian music. In addition to trumpet and flugelhorn, Quinteto Caballero features dynamic musicians on piano, bass, congas, and timbale/trap. Over the years, these talented musicians have played with such luminaries as Lila Downs, Oscar Chávez, and La Maldita Vecindad.

Friday, August 25, 2017: Lorraine Castellanos Quintet – Lorraine Castellanos has an intense passion for music, evident in her perceptive phrasing and tone, both as an instrumentalist and vocalist. With a weighty voice and sensitive execution on the Classical Guitar, Castellanos is gaining a reputation as a dynamic musical presence in her hometown of San Diego, California.

With extensive knowledge of multiple genres of music, Ms. Castellanos derives pure pleasure when interpreting the works of great Latin American and Western European composers. Inspired by the likes of John Williams, Andres Segovia, and Berta Rojas, Castellanos has equal admiration for the great female jazz song stylists who have inspired her to sing selections from the great American Songbook, particularly Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington.
