For Immediate Release: California Center for the Arts, Escondido brings Concerts, Comedy, and Cabaret to Grape Day Park this Spring

Escondido, California — :

California Center for the Arts, Escondido is pleased to be hosting a new live entertainment series – Concerts on the Great Green – in partnership with Show Imaging.  Shows are scheduled to begin in March, continuing through the spring until June, and will include performances from all genres of music, dance, and comedy.  More information about tickets for upcoming shows is available at artcenter.org

Finishing out the 2020-2021 season, this new series will be presented on The Center’s own 12-acre campus, with the Great Green serving as the home for its new outdoor stage.  Tickets will be sold in “pods”, where concert-goers will sit outside in designated spaces with a group of household members to safely enjoy socially-distanced music and comedy.  Health and safety are always The Center’s top priority for its patrons and staff, and The Center puts safety at the helm of this new project as well.  Read event safety guidelines here.

The Center’s own Theater Production Team, CCAE Theatricals will add to the excitement with their signature Cabaret in the Courtyard series. Starting in March, CCAE Theatricals will put on one of their unique shows once a month in the enchanting Center Theater Courtyard, outdoors on The Center’s campus.  These intimate shows  will feature engaging music for all audiences: Great American Songbook (March 21), Songs from the Silver Screen (April 18), and Music of the Night: Songs of Andrew Lloyd Webber (May 16).  Patrons of Cabaret in the Courtyard have the option to enjoy a full “cabaret” experience with lite-bites and charcuterie available for purchase with tickets or on the night of the event.  Cabaret shows will begin at 6:00 PM for a twilight entertainment experience.

Concerts on the Great Green serve as a “second act” for The Center’s response to stay alive and thrive during the ongoing pandemic, and a testament to the organization’s innovative-spirit and resilience.  Last fall, The Center successfully produced over 40 live shows and movies at the Drive-In at Cal State San Marcos.  With the collaboration of CSUSM, The Drive-In was a great success in keeping much of its workforce employed, and in uniting the community through art & entertainment at a time when San Diego residents have been cut off from opportunities.

This new series aims to achieve the same goal as the Drive-In, and wouldn’t be possible without the support and collaboration of the City of Escondido. The Center’s Executive Director Jerry Van Leeuwen remarked: “The City has given us an incredible opportunity to continue fulfilling our mission on our own campus, even during a time when our theaters must be closed indoors.  What an incredible gift to keep folks employed, the community enlivened, and utilize our beautiful campus in a whole new way!”

Likewise, Escondido’s mayor, Paul McNamara stated: “Nothing stops our Art Center; come March an outdoor concert series begins in Grape Day Park. As they say you can’t keep a good “center” down. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming outdoor event on the Great Lawn.”

The Center hopes that Concerts on the Great Green will be a great beacon of hope for the entire community in the new year. As the COVID-19 pandemic continues on, The Center aims to bring live entertainment to North County in a continued effort to provide meaningful and engaging cultural experiences, even while residents are forced to stay distanced.
