Join us at the Center to celebrate Día de los Muertos!
CCAE welcomes the community to celebrate in person the 26th Annual Día de los Muertos celebration. It’s an opportunity to gather together as a community to honor and remember our loved ones who are no longer with us. The Center will stay true to tradition and have altars outside the Museum for anyone to use, available on a first come, first served basis. Dance performances by the Aztec dance group Xinachtli and Tierra Caliente Academy of Arts will perform outside. Craft tables, an outdoor DJ and an artisan craft market will also be part of the festivities. The community participatory altars are based on the original 1995 site-specific art installation conceived and designed by artist Eloy Tarcisio titled Muerte de Todos.

Enjoy the beautiful exhibitions of
Jose Posada Guadalupe and
Muerte y Monstruos: Papier-mâché from the Larry Kent Collection
These exhibitions highlight artworks that reference Día de los Muertos and celebrate Mexico’s rich artistic heritage. Also on view is an ofrenda created in partnership with the Tijuana Cultural Center (CECUT) dedicated to José Guadalupe Posada. We encourage visitors to participate in Eloy Tarciscio’s Muerte de todos, ofrenda de participación. A staple of the Center’s Día celebration, these community altars are offered to visitors who wish to create a small ofrenda honoring a loved one who has passed. Altar spaces and materials are limited, so we advise you arrive early.
Masks are required for everyone over 2 years of age for all indoor and outdoor events while not actively eating or drinking. Masks must be made of paper or cloth and cover your nose and mouth and fit snugly on your face.
Vaccination/testing documentation is not required for outdoor events.
