Escondido Choral Arts will present a new, musical adventure titled Jubilate Deo for chorus, orchestra and soloists composed by Dan Forrest Friday, June 2nd at 7:00 PM. The Center Chorale, The Pacific Coast Chorale and the Center Children’s Chorus will sing Forrest’s work, based on texts centered around the spirit of Psalm 100 in seven different languages expressed by his energetically diverse and musical style. Forrest’s Jubilate Deo brings musical themes together culminating in the phrase Omnis Terra, Jubilate Deo “Shout for Joy, All the Earth”. Bringing to life this global text and setting brings an inspiring, symbolic message of unity between cultures around the world we are proud to share.
The concert will begin with a Harp Concerto, featuring harpist Naomi Alter in Debussy’s Danses sacrée et danse profane, a beautiful prelude to the boisterous exuberance of Forrest’s Jubilate Deo. The two-movement work for Harp and String Orchestra was composed in 1904. The New York Times described the American premiere of Debussy’s work as “music of distinctive charm and flavor”. Debussy’s biographer Léon Vallas, called the music “simple and pleasantly harmonious”. The use of ancient modes and instrumentation creates a colorful dreamscape of Debussy’s parallel harmony.
