From 2001 to 2013, Mariachi Chula Vista, led by Mark Fogelquist, was the leading high school mariachi group in the US, winning numerous awards and performing at major festivals and conferences. In 2011, Mariachi Estrellas de Chula Vista was formed by alumni, and in 2013 merged with Mariachi Chula Vista. The group has since performed at over 600 events, including winning first place at the 2014 Mariachi Spectacular and 2012 Por Amor a Mi Tierra competitions, as well as appearing at various festivals. Mark Fogelquist is the director of Mariachi Estrellas de Chula Vista.
