2013: Art Illustrated
Celebrating Comic Art
June 20, 2013 – July 28, 2013
This summer, the Center presents a major exhibition featuring over 250 pieces of art from many of the most popular comic artists of the last 80 years. Among the pieces in the exhibition are Spider-Man, Dennis the Menace, Zits, Luann, Blondie, Beetle Bailey, Sherman’s Lagoon and Family Circus. Also included in the exhibition are works by Pop Art icons Claes Oldenburg and Roy Lichtenstein and a work by contemporary Korean artist, Donghyou Son. Another highlight is very rarely seen comic art from the 1940’s by San Diego’s beloved Dr. Seuss, Theodor Geisel.
The Center is grateful to the Escondido Charitable Foundation and the Dr. Seuss Fund at the San Diego Foundation for their most generous support of the exhibition. We acknowledge with appreciation the cooperation of King Features, New York; Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, Los Angeles and the Rubin Museum of Art, New York.
