Second Time Around: The Hubcap as Art
April 8 – May 28, 2017
With a powerful message of environmental awareness, this exhibition highlights a creative alternative to mindless consumption and focuses on the importance of repurposing. Artists from around the world transform discarded hubcaps into fine art in a unique collaboration with Landfillart, Inc., a Pennsylvania-based nonprofit.
The exhibition is toured by ExhibitsUSA, a national program of Mid-America Arts Alliance.
Reuse Recreate Reimagine will be on view in conjunction with Second Time Around: The Hubcap as Art thus devoting the entire museum to art made of recycled materials. The exhibition celebrates the trans-formative nature of art in the most physical sense. With a nod to environmentalism, the exhibition also hopes to catalyze guests to think about the trash cycle and their role in that cycle. With a mission of bringing people together to discover, create and celebrate the visual arts, the Center has collaborated with local California artists and their work to showcase in this exhibition.
The artwork in the exhibition has been made of materials that were used and would have ended up in the landfill except for artist intervention affording those materials new life through art. Image credit: Larry and Debby Kline, The Alchemist and His Junks, mixed media.
