With a mission of bringing people together to discover, create, and celebrate both the visual and performing arts, the California Center for the Arts, Escondido is the cultural center of North San Diego County. The season kicks-off with the highly-anticipated San Francisco Comedy Competition, a longstanding launchpad for an array of comic superstars including Robin Williams, Dana Carvey, Ellen DeGeneres, Louis C.K., and more. Reigning champ Kabir “Kabeezy” Singh will host the hilarious showcase featuring ten semi-finalists, who will each perform an 8-12 minute set, judged in part by the audience.

Fresh off his Comedy Central debut on the hit comedy show “Gabriel Iglesias’s Stand-Up Revolution,” Kabir Singh is a highenergy, fast-talking comic who has collected numerous accolades for his razor-sharp wit and in-your-face attitude, including taking home first place two years in a row at the Bay Area Stand Up Comedy Competition, and winning the 39th Annual SF International Comedy Competition. At the latter, he became the first comic in the competition’s history to place first in all five rounds. Singh has also shared the stage with top stars like Dave Chappelle, Dane Cook, and Russell Peters, and has headlined every major comedy club in California including the Hollywood Laugh Factory, Melrose Improv, and Sacramento Punchline.

San Diego audiences will undoubtedly remember the velvety voice of Pink Martini’s lead vocalist Storm Large from last season’s sold out show. This year, Large returns with her fearless band, Le Bonheur, to perform a broad range of rock anthems, Broadway tear-jerkers, tunes from the American songbook, and her own original material. Expect an unrestrained and impassioned exploration of love, desire, and truth in Large’s spellbinding performance, Songs of Seduction and Obsession. This show contains mature content.

Musician, actor, and playwright Storm Large skyrocketed to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS show Rock Star: Supernova. In 2011, Large later made her debut as guest vocalist with Pink Martini, bringing her powerful voice to four sold-out concerts with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center. The vocalist continues to perform with the band, touring nationally and internationally, and was featured on their album, Get Happy. She has also performed with the likes of k.d. lang, Rufus Wainwright, George Clinton, Kirill Gerstein, and John Doe. Storm Large performed with the Oregon Symphony in 2010, and has returned for sold-out performances each year thereafter. The musician made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2013, singing Weill’s Seven Deadly Sings with the Detroit Symphony.

Featured in Rid of Me, a film by Portlander James Westby, Large also starred at the Mark Taper Forum with Katey Sagal and Michael McKean in Jerry Zak’s production of Harps and Angels, a musical featuring the work of Randy Newman. Storm Large is currently collaborating on a new musical with The Public Theater in New York City.

You’ll recognize the rhyme and have a fun-filled time during this fast-paced play about a brother, a sister, and their unexpected visitor. The mischievous Cat in the Hat transforms a dull, rainy day into a madcap adventure that Sally and her brother will never forget, thanks to some tricks (and a fish) and Thing One and Thing Two. Dr. Seuss’ classic tale comes alive in this engaging stage adaptation recommended for grades pre-K through 4th. Childsplay, a nationally recognized professional theatre for young audiences, presents the live stage adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ The Cat in the Hat. Arguably the most famous children’s book of all time, The Cat in the Hat is a non-stop ride of hilarity and laughter; everyone will leave smiling.

*The Cat in the Hat takes place at the Center Theater on September 27, 2015 @ 12:00pm & 3:00pm. More information can befound on its website.

Led by 20-time GRAMMY® winner and Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill, The Time Jumpers bring together some of Nashville’s most gifted musicians. Formed in 1998, The Time Jumpers quickly built a huge following, and earned two GRAMMY® nominations. With a strong affinity for western swing, the ten-member group captures a poignant and exuberant side of country music. Alphabetically — which is the only diplomatic way to present such a gifted ensemble — they are Dennis Crouch (upright bass), Larry Franklin (fiddle), Paul Franklin (steel guitar), Vince Gill (vocals, electric and acoustic guitars), “Ranger Doug” Green (vocals, acoustic rhythm guitar), Andy Reiss (electric guitar), Kenny Sears (vocals, fiddle), Joe Spivey (fiddle, vocals) Jeff Taylor (accordion, piano) and Billy Thomas (drums, vocals).

Over the course of the past 30 years, The Time Jumpers have shared stages with esteemed artists ranging from Ray Price to John Anderson to Carrie Underwood, at legendary venues like the Grand Ole Opry and Carnegie Hall. The ensemble released their first studio project for Rounder Records, The Time Jumpers (2012), after a live album, Jumpin’ Time (2007), which earned them two GRAMMY® nominations and a high-profile segment on NPR’s All Things Considered.
