Opening Ceremony
DECEMBER 4, 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM
The Tibetan Buddhist monks of Gaden Shartse Phukhang Monastery from Southern India will join us in sharing their Sacred Earth and Healing Arts, beginning with an opening ceremony to mark the construction of a Buddha Manjushri sand mandala. This Buddha invokes wisdom, learning, memory, and worldly knowledge. In Mahayana Buddhism, Manjushri is the bodhisattva of wisdom and is one of the most important iconic figures in Mahayana art and literature.

Enjoy traditional Tibetan activities, including a hands-on experience with sand mandala tools, butter sculpture, and Tibetan calligraphy.
Closing Ceremony

The monks will offer small bags of mandala sand to everyone after it is swept up in ceremony. The community is welcome to go with the monks to a nearby lake to disperse the sand as a blessing for world peace.
All events are free and open to the public. Donations are appreciated.
**NOTICE – Please note that the Annual Escondido Christmas Parade will be taking place from 10:00am to 1:00pm on Saturday, December 9th. This will shut down a few main roads so please plan for extra time when arriving to accommodate any changes in your route. Our main parking lot will be closed until 2:00pm, however, there will be available parking across the street at Civic Center Plaza. ADA patrons can be dropped off via the arrival courtyard after 1:00PM.
