Chilean conductor Paolo Bortolameolli opens this orchestral showcase with Chilean composer Miguel Farías’ brilliantly explosive Estallido, written in the months after a social revolt in Chile in October 2019. Piano sensation Janice Carissa joins the orchestra for Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand, which was written for a pianist who lost his right arm during World War I. Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, “Pathétique”, completed just nine days before his death, punctuates the composer’s life with a soaring work filled with raw emotion, lush orchestration and graceful melodies.
